While the T-4 extension is in the works, it is still much further off than any of us can imagine. With the exception of summer peak periods there is still plenty of capacity to be had in the Terminal. IAT is not going to break ground until revenue starts to pick up. Things are very tight there these days.
One other big problem with using T-6, when Jetblue built T-5 they did it in such a way that without modifications to T-6, not all of the gates are usable. There new terminal does not provide adequate clearance into all of the T-5 gates. T-5 is also configured for narrow bodies only specifically A320/737 and smaller. Widebodies will not fit without taking gates out of service.
