I just go in to the desk to check in for my flight. Only rarely do they ask for my AC card. My flights are usually ought of SJC, JFK, BOS, SFO. A major exception is ORD, where everyone, including the pope, must show an AC card to go upstairs. In fact, I'm sure being a control freak is a prerequisite for the job of checking cards. My older sister had a valid card as my companion on AAirpass and was rejected by an attendent who didn't know 01/04 meand January of 04. She insisted it meant April of 01. Go figure.
