That's why when stuff like that does have to be looked at, I take the passenger and the bag and go to a private screening room to avoid not only that issue, but also to avoid an awkward moment for the passenger.
Interesting -- Maybe it's just me, but, I wasn't aware that a screener could
direct a passenger to submit to a private screening. My understanding that a private screening is optional and is done at the passenger's request.
