OK, when I checked on Airfrance.ie yesterday under Gold Benefits and choose the Lounge Access, not a word on bringing guests, and checked the Platinum section (for comparison) where it clearly stated that one could bring a guest.

Went back today and the wording in the Gold section had changed and now it said that Gold Elite+ members can bring a guest free of charge

Thanks for all the replies though, and I guess we now have established that E+ members can bring one guest into the lounges ^
