Diamonds get executive lounge access. That's really the benefit of Diamond. A few extra points, sure. But HHonors isn't particularly rewarding of its top tier.
Marriott is only marginally better.
The most generous programs are Hyatt Diamond and Intercontinental Royal Ambassador, followed by Starwood Platinum.

For me, I'm not as worried about the stated benefits as much as my actual experience. The Hiltons/Doubletrees at which I've stayed give free internet to all Golds/Diamonds and I've been upgraded at almost every property I could receive an upgrade.
While I'm not currently diamond, I will be soon (22 nights during Q1) and I don't believe I'll feel unrecognized as I feel recognized now as a Gold (which some diamonds may have a problem with).
