I didnt love the starter (but neither did I on the way out to JFK from LHR) and choice of main was fish, beef or pasta and having had full meal in lounge, I went for pasta.

The crew had some sort metal basket type carrier thing which held 3 or 4 bottles of wine when they passed through the cabin for top-ups and generally the wine and water was flowing freely.

The "DVD" player that was handed out looked exactly like the ones used on AA domestic F and UA Premium Service C and F. Picture also gives an idea of the space and row in front etc:

The selection was ok - not as great as the AVOD library but definitely enough.

The bed was comfortable - here's a slightly blurry shot of my 'neighbour' across the aisle sleeping:

The control were straight forward:

but I very much liked little touches like a 2nd mini control panel for easier use whilst the seat is in the bed position:

I fell asleep half way through the film and woke up when the captain announced that we were 30 mins out of LCY. The bed had been very comfortable though I initially though the angle was almost feeling as if the head was lower than the feet.

I had told the crew that I didnt want breakfast but they checked whether I wanted anything (and the DVD player etc had all been cleared away) and I just went for some coffee which came in a paper cup given we were close to landing. I managed to squeeze in a refill before landing.

When we arrived at LCY, our A318's sister was still parked there getting ready to become BA1 for the morning flight to JFK:

Given we couldnt take that stand, there was a bus waiting for us which seemed to take us about 20 yards (something I never quite understood at LCY) and clearing UK Border was fast. Though my bag (which I had checked) was one of the last ones to come out, I was heading for the DLR within 15 mins of touching down.

Overall, a great and whilst I dont use the word lightly 'outstanding' flight. The crew were fantastic - charming, attentative, professional, everything you'd want in a crew (they were clearly very proud of the service - one of them told pax that if they liked the flight, to tell their friends and colleagues about it) - seat was comfy, general cabin ambience very good and easy to board and deplane and cut out the usual stress.

I'll definitely be back on this service next time I need to be in NY and look forward to trying the daytime service as well.
