Which is a better reward? $150 or 25,000 Continental OnePass Miles?
Hi everyone,
I am going to open a Chase checking account and trying to decide between the 25,000 CO miles or $150 credited to the account. I think the version of the checking account with the 25,000 miles also has a $25.00 annual fee.
Fundamentally I guess am wondering what y’all think the value of CO miles are.
My reasoning is that… given that I am going to open a checking account, I either would get reward one, 25,000 miles less the $25 fee or reward two, $150.00.
So as long as miles are worth more than (25000/17500), I should take reward number 1. (The 17500 cents comes from giving up the $150 credit and paying $25 in fees.) So that is like 1.43 miles per penny. That seems like an ok deal but what do others think? Did I get it right? Is there an obvious solution or is this all in the gray region of behavioral/social economics?
Thanks for your thoughts.
