My experience with AA, UA, US is that (on 'meal flights') they always fully cater their F-cl cabins. I don't recall how it is with AA (as I am not using oneWorld that frequently these days), but on US you can buy F-cl upgrade at the gate for USD 50.00 - so if there are any seats left after the elites are upgraded, they will attempt to sell them at the gate.
