OK, I am really reaching here, but depending on the length of your connection in New York, you could book a separate ticket from New York on American Eagle to somewhere close to get the status miles. I am not sure I could find the flight you are on at AA.com (big surprise...) but if you have an overnight in New York, you could try JFK to BOSton, ALBany, BDL (Hartford), ProViDence, or ROChester. Of course, if you had the 9900 miles, you could always beg....
