There is no fee for domestic Elite upgrades! I've been seeing the same "misinformation" for many months, when either booking an initial on-line flight with mileage upgrade as well as when I do a subsequent on-line mileage upgrade. Although the screen shows Mileage + $$, when you ultimately confirm your info (even before the reservation is finalized) the $$$ disappears. Fear not!
