We did a helicopter "ride" over the Glaciers (see MANY glaciers) - from Franz Josef last September. It was about a 20-30 minute ride if I remember. A bit of a splurge $, but ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING, STUNNING, BREATH TAKING views. We had a gorgeous sunny morning. Landed for a couple minutes on a glacier. No biggie there but for the fact that you are on top of the mountains and feel like it's the top of the world. cool. At least for me, the beauty of that short ride will remain a memorable part of a wonderful NZ trip.
