Good idea! I have recently donated a whole slew of swirls, cereal and bars to our local Salvation Army. They distribute to needy families and the homeless.
If you plan to donate to Salvation Army, here's a tip though. Take your receipts for the product with you and, if possible, weigh your donations before you go. I was suprised to find that they require this info on their receipts for tax purposes (other charities might as well). Since I didn't bring my food receipts with me I was going to have to guess and possibly be stuck with food receipts and donation receipts that did not match. Luckily I was able to persuade them to let me leave my copy blank to fill in when I got home. I was glad I could as I would not look forward to having to explain to the IRS why my receipts didn't jibe. They also ask you to fill in the weight in pounds of the food you donate. You can guess, but if I had known beforehand I would have just weighed it.
Now I think I need to make some more Kellogg's runs!
