As for the compensation no idea, but my dad was on a flight in F that went tech on the ground, they said it should be easily fixable so they sat there. After discussion with the captain, F pax had dinner served as it would be a long enough delay, then they announced that the flight was going no where(proved un-fixable). He was asked if he wanted a hotel room and he said no, he was going home to his own bed, asked if he wanted a flight the next day he said no point as he wouldn't get there in time to speak at the conference, would still like his tier points and miles though.
