we have had numerous segments on j lass or a class with LX and they will upgrade if you have the proper points or they will let you use the points difference
AC is not flexible on an aeroplan awrd ( they used to be great abot it)

But how would the points differnce work if you've already given out the points for J (as OP - J one way, Y on the return)? How many more points would you have to give LX?
