I've never eaten in one to be honest but after reading Swanhunters report I may just give it a try on my next UK visit.

My opinion is just because you pay more doesn't guarantee that the quality of the food will be better quality and vice versa. My criteria when eating out is to first look at the restaurant interior furnishings and decoration....if it's expensive looking you can bet you are paying for it so you can take a fair % off the price of the bill for that alone and that's even before you have taken your first bite.
A lot of people....British especially are taken in by the misconception that if the premises are impressive looking the food has to be great quality.......we all know that is just not the case. It's horses for courses.

Anyway, I'm sure Wetherspoons will survive without us as will La Gavroche.
