Whats shameful is SFO is an outpost for SQ and they have better lounge offerings than UA has at their hubs, it might not be the biggest lounge but its got all the things one would expect: hot food, free booze, wifi, SHOWERS, how UA can't figure out that people traveling long distances might want a shower is beyond me.
If UA were to provide a comparable lounge the airline would go broke. UA could not afford to feed thousands of visitors a day. It could not maintain in decent shape the showers -- hey, the loos in the RCCs stink to high heaven and look like pig styes 20-minutes after the janitorial staff clean them.
What makes SQ's lounge what it is is its exclusivity and the fact that the vast majority of travellers never get to use it. I'm surprised they even let UA domestic fliers into it...but guess they must call it a STARGold lounge.
