The scanners allow the TSA to see beneath a passenger's clothing, to search for contraband not detectable to the eye or a metal screener.
Oh so now the new scanner will be used to find contraband. I hope the copy was the author's and not official policy. Websters defines contraband as:
Goods or merchandise whose importation, exportation, or possession is forbidden
I guess that means drugs, child porn, and illegal foods, plants and animals.
