I much prefer to break up long flights if at all possible, and will intentionally look for a connection to break up the journey, and if possible, even take a one-day layover. It really depends on your own psychological and physical make-up as to which you prefer. Then you have to add in the difference in airline quality to make the final decision.
I tend to agree with this, provided that I have the extra time for an overnight (or more) along the way. If I can't spend the extra days away, I'd probably take the nonstop -- long miserable flight, but the lack of a stop will usually cut a good couple of hours from the total flying time.
