We did that at Rome Central Park Hotel (actually now the Courtyard), but then it was obvious when checking out we had a private van taking 8 of us, we had 2 rooms booked for 2 each. The extra person rates were outrageous....front desk not happy but thats why you refuse to sign the bill

Excellent - encouraging breaking the law sets a fine example for youth. Hotels in certain jurisdictions are required to ask for ID and report identities to police. Italy is one such place.
As another poster noted, if you want things like home, stay home.
