Toronto is a great city, if you want to raise a family. Or a plant. (ba-dum-dum). Seriously though it is a great city, with all you could want from a large metropolis. There is a big theatre scene (and not just all the mega shows), great symphony and opera, live bands, art galleries and museums (I think that King Tut is leaving at the end of March, so you won't be able to visit him sadly) etc. etc.

Make sure you visit the Beaches neighbourhood (locals call it the Beach). It is a 45 minute streetcar ride (take the Queen car eastbound). There is a nice boardwalk by the lake, great restaurants etc along Queen st. A lot of fun on a warm spring day.

(It is also very gay friendly. Holding hands will not be an issue anywhere, except perhaps for your shy boyfriend. I'm not a big one for public displays of affection myself, and tend not to hold hands with my boyfriend anywhere, so you may need to let that one go...)
