Hong Kong's prevailing winds are easterly, meaning Runway 7 will be in use most of the time. Book a seat on the right, and you'll see Hong Kong and Kowloon before the plane heads further west and do the right/U-turn to land west to east. However, if the forecast calls for westerly winds and Runway 25, get a left window seat. Planes from NRT will make a right turn over the Sai Kung peninsula and turn left over Sha Tin. The city will be on the left, but there is still plenty to see on the right. However, if Runway 7 is in use and you sit on the left, there's barely anything to see until the plane turns from westbound to northbound (Macau appears) and eventually eastbound.
