I know this doesn't answer your question, but you should do what you can to keep your regulator and dive computer in your carry-on. Should your checked luggage be dealyed, you can rent everything else you need.
Well, since you asked, approximate replacement value (this equipment is only a few months old):
Atomic Splitfins+boots - $245
Henderson 7mm H2 Titanium wetsuit - $400
Mares Airtrim BCD - $300
Various other bits and pieces - $100

so ~$1045

this is in addition to of course whatever else of value will go into my suitcase so the total value of my checked luggage could perhaps be as high as $1500.

yes, my mask, snorkel and regulator/computer is in my carry on, would never put that in checked baggage I entertained the idea of just wearing my BCD but the airtrim looks kinda weird and given security conditions these days I would rather not freak people out by having a strange contraption on my body!
