A day trip from Hiroshima to the Ise Shrines? No, that was not great planning. The usual base for seeing the Ise Shrines is Nagoya, and even then, I don't recommend going there unless you are a devotee of Shinto or are very interested in early (like 1000AD or earlier) Japanese history or want to combine it with a visit to the Mikimoto Pearl Island.
