There are a lot of people out there who got extended to March 2012 (present company included) due to their Surpass spending in 2010. And we do not need to re-qualify through our spent this year. I still decided to use my Surpass for all of above mentioned categories, as 6 points/$1 spent was worth it to me more than any other program. You should decide on your own.
Of course, continue on using Surpass for Hilton stays, you et 29 points per 1$ as a Diamond with a use of Surpass (10 base, 5 double-dip, 5 diamond, 9 from AMEX), but you are already doing that.

Thank you for taking the time to post your well-thought-out analysis. What I should have written in my original post was that I was still planning to use Surpass for items that would result in extra points (Hilton stays, grocieries, gasoline, etc.). What I had in mind were the larger amounts for which extra points do not apply. What I still need to do is compute the value of an Hhonors point vs that of an airline mile.
