Disappointly they often can not - and in this case you would need to trek over to Terminal 3 before checking in at Terminal 5. Amex would no doubt cock something up administratively which would take several calls to sort out - so good job you did indeed keep the card with you!
Years ago I had a cards replaced same day when in Andorra, They don't offer a fast replacement same day unless you push them.
As all my other cards had gone, I went to take some cash out on my amex and 2 machines gave me an unspecified ' please try later' message before I called the customer service line at Amex to discover that they do not enable cards for cash withdrawal unless requested.
