Virgin America is nice, but the Main Cabin Select is typically $100-$200 more each way on the routes I've flown. You get to sit in an exit row (and board first) - big deal! I wouldn't spend this amount unless you're over 6'.
Actually, MCS includes quite a bit more: Change/cancellation fees waived, one free checked bag, priority security, bottomless drinks and food on-board, and unlimited premium AVOD. But I usually see a decent premium for MCS fares over UA's lowest fares.
