"Uniformed services" is the correct terminology which includes the seven uniformed services in the U.S.:

1. Army
2. Navy
3. USAF
4. Marine Corps
5. Coast Guard -- DHS
6. NOAA Corps -- DOC
7. Uniformed Public Health Service -- HHS

You're not likely to ever see a UPHS doc or nurse packing heat, but, the other six are fair game. "Uniformed services" comes into play because all seven have the same pay & benefits, which is appropriated in the defense bill every year. Congress screws up fairly often (imagine that!) and frequently uses the language: "armed forces" in appropriations bills. So, until someone notices and administratively corrects the error, the bottom three are left out of pay raises and other personnel-related appropriations.
Only if the intent is to include NOAA Corps and the Uniformed Public Health Service. Otherwise, US military personnel would be appropriate.
