When I deal with Chinese travel agents, they require the same thing too. Copies of front and back of the credit card. So I don't think there is any issues here. I won't be too concerned because I suppose you would trust the hotel.

I was about to check out Fairmont Beijing when I go there this month, but since Raffles Beijing offers me a free suite plus USD250 dining credit, I would be silly not to take up their offer! So maybe next time.
