As I said, Nassau is not my favorite destination (but that's merely because there are so many nice destinations in the Gulf, Atlantic and Caribbean) and others who like Nassau particularly well may be able to give you better suggestions, but I can say, for me and my wife, we generally stick to beach activities when in the Bahamas. Nevertheless, there are cultural sites and activities in Nassau that would appeal to any age. There's a zoo, gardens, a fort, more than one museum, the over-hyped but awkwardly charming Straw Market, and many boating-related activities. Not exactly high culture, I admit, but culturally flavorful nonetheless, with a quaint British air. But, as I intimated, I don't go to the Bahamas for the culture. The beach is where it's at. Were I in Miami, I'd also be at the beach or on a boat, even though there are many cultural things to do ashore there too.
I'm from Ohio, so I consider 75 degrees tropical. You may not.
Still, the climate in the Bahamas is not altogether different from that of Miami, so weather-wise I don't see any disadvantage to being offshore. And, to me, being in another country, regardless how nearby and Americanized it may be, has a charm all its own.
