Depends on who you ask. I had an agent read me GG AMENITIES 113-114 this morning while trying to get on PHL-ORD-LAS. It says something like, "In the event of delays more than 2 hours *A partners can be tried; for 4+ hours all carriers can be considered." There is nothing specific in the section with respect to weather so apparently it is at the discretion of the agent whether to extend that benefit when the delay is weather/ATC.
On Wed night I was to fly CO SAN-EWR-PIT
SAN-EWR redeye operated on time.
However, I knew getting to PIT would be trouble, even though the ERW-PIT flights still showed ON TIME.
Asked a SAN counter agent if I could get to PIT any other way.
FYI - I was on a L class ticket.
"Sure...US via CLT. No problem."
He immediately booked me SAN-CLT-PIT on US.
I walked 10 yards to the US counter and checked in.
Entire process took less than 10 minutes.
US even blocked the middle seat next to me on their redeye to CLT. ^
