It is reducing the pitch somewhat, but if you've ever flown a long haul flight or a red eye in coach, I think most people scoot down in their chair anyway to straighten out their body as much as possible. I know I do, anyway. I think this just serves to support your back and head when you do so. Being 6 ft. tall, I would definitely only use this thing when I'm trying to sleep.
