I had booked a reservation ahead of time at a small-town Best Western.. Having stayed there before I was happy with the rooms and had specifically reserved a non-smoking room. .
When I arrived, the hotel was full and I was informed that I had been upgraded to the King Jacuzzi Suite.... GREAT!
After arriving at the room I discovered that this was a smoking room, so I returned to the front desk and asked to be placed into a non-smoking room.
I was told there were none available as the hotel was full.
I politely stated my case to the front desk clerk and she offered to refund my stay and I could move to another hotel...(no other chains in town, so would mean driving another 30 minutes to the next Best Western)
I decided to stay...
A few days after my stay, I wrote a letter to the hotel manager stating the facts as above... and that a reservation for a non-smoking room should always be a non-smoking room even if it's an upgraded room... I don't consider an upgrade to a smoking jacuzzi suite, to really be an upgrade.
To my surprise, she agreed with me and sent me a certificate good for one night at their hotel.
