So I looked on expedia for other options, and it showed the same Westin as being available at the normal rate, and I booked through them. How is that? When I checked in, they still gave me upgrade, plat amenity, and points, which I understand is optional when you don't book through spg.
If you find the rate at SPG.com, might want to try invoking the BRG:
Feel confident knowing that you will always get the best available rate at any of our hotels. If you find a lower published rate prior to, or within 24 hours of, booking your hotel room, simply submit a Best Rate Guarantee Claim to us and we will honor that lower rate. It's now easier than ever with our online claim form. We'll also give you an additional 10% discount or 2,000 StarpointsŪ. Guaranteed.
I used it once last year, and got a bonus 2000 points.
