Yep. I back up my laptops (company and personal) weekly at a minimum. The company laptop came with encryption software, and I installed TrueCrypt on my personal laptop. TrueCrypt works great, and it's free.^^

If it is encrypted and backed up, that should not be the case. If it is the case, then you should not be traveling with it and it should be kept well secured in your work place.
