I was protected on a later DCA-ATL flight last friday night because my inbound flight was delayed. I ended up just making my original flight at the last minute and was given my original seat in F. I wasn't really concerned that I would lose my seat on the flight entirely but thought I might lose my upgrade. Turns out all was well.
