This is probably one of those times when you should've done like the guy and started using a louder tone of voice than normal.
Screamng and yelling usually gets you no where here in Thailand. Just have to be patient. Most people (locals) here don't know how to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. You just have to go with the flow.
