None of the glacier walks involve technical climbing, however some are physically demanding. The one that I was on used crampons and ice sticks plus ropes that had been laid that morning as handrails for the hard bits, along with steps cut in the ice on the steep bits (the guides worked for several hours preparing the route). The steep parts were circa 45 degree climb (so not climbing but giving that feel); about half the tourists in my group didn't complete the entire route due to difficulty, but the guides were very good. It is a more adventurous glacier walk than you would ever get in the US.

The helicopter walks are pretty sedate, you land on the flat part of the glacier and it is an easy walk not much different from a snow field.
