While policy, I still think this is sad.

A guest goes out of his way to be loyal and book an SPG property when it's otherwise unavailable, through the only reasonable booking channel. That out to be commended and rewarded by SPG...

I understand why chains came up with these sorts of policies, ~ 2002 they were losing control of their booking venues and leaking tremendous revenue to the online services like Expedia. So they needed to incentivize booking through their own proprietary channels.

But the unintended consequences here are, I think, significant.
