I've used my miles to get award tickets for others and I always paid for the taxes using my credit card. The people using the tickets never had a problem when checking in.

The amazing thing is that UA is leaving short-term revenue on the table, when these co-pays exist to generate more revenue! I wonder if it matters in the long run. Guess it depends which quarter they need the revenue more badly.
