I take it your BA insurance is a stand alone policy. If you had a BA AmEx Ppremium Plus card, the cover would continue when the subscription renews. If you don't, you may want to think about getting one for the future.

Otherwise, either call again - the FT mantra: if you don't get the answer you want, call again - or find another insurer.
