Now, one concern. In the guidebook I have I read they don't allow cars in Torres del Paine park (just busses and vans). So you have to park outside and walk/ take local bus.

back in 2006 i was able to drive my "own" rental car through the TdP national park.
unless you want to walk/hike, you definitely need a car as there is not that much of public transportations
