Can someone please rectify these contradictory statements? Can you use the upgrade certificate in advance or not? And if not, and you wanted to use it domestically, you'd just show up at the airport and ask if there is "upgrade inventory" available using a certificate as opposed to the "upgrade inventory" using the free medallion upgrade?? Are these sets of availability taken from two different fare classes?
