Actually, if you are flying into EWR, it's a one-seat ride on Amtrak from the EWR station all the way to New Haven. Advance purchase fares are $40 one-way.
The PVD option would yield a shorter train ride and a $34 advance purchase ticket but the time and money savings would likely be negated by the cab ride into downtown Providence to catch the train.
