on some flights they may not even open up any inventory for reward redemption..... its really subject to economic, demand conditions and how airlines forecast expected demand and release the number of reward seats accordingly. if demand is good, or the airline shift its priority to upgrade rewards or reward more of its own members at premium mileage then they may not even release any seats out (like SQ / NZ38/39 on most flights).

Booking on the first day you can doesn't guarantee anything. NZ is notorious for not releasing seats until very close in to departure.
For a 1 weekly flight, I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find award seats.
