Well I for one find it extremely useful especially since I normally stay at the Paddington Hilton.
In bound I can be checked-in and resting in my room in about 30 mins (after a long TA flight) after stepping on the HEX.
Outbound with careful timing I have able check out of the hotel get on the train and be sitting in the AA lounge at LHR easily under an hour.
The above is worth more to me than trying to save 10 GBP and FYI I am paying out my own pocket
While the Picadilly Line saves one money I for one just dont feel like hauling luggage around on the tube.

I usually stay at the Hilton Metropole, which also is a short walk from Paddington Station (and a great location generally, including for a daily run down Sussex Gardens and around the perimiter of Hyde Park). Although I'm a big fan of the $2 public transportation option in NYC, when I arrive at LHR after a long flight, I love boarding the HEX and being at my hotel in less than half an hour.
