Need help on my Tokyo itinerary. Wondering if JR Pass is needed (if so, whole country or region?). May nix Hiroshima--and doing day trips w/o overnight stays. Staying in Tokyo for 19 days.
Also, what does Suica do? Should I buy the JR special one day passes instead of the Suica on certain days (going to Ginza, Shibuya, Harajuku, etc.) Would that save money? Also, any more ideas on what to do? Any good places to find a kimono under USD $30? I heard about Oriental Bazaar.
Any must sees to do? Is the Tokyo Tower worth it/Tokyo City View, or should I save the $ and do the Tokyo Metropolitan Gov Bldg observatory?
Any great castles? I'm seeing lots of cool temples/shrines. And is the trip to Nikko to see Kegon Waterfalls worth it? Will I find it easily, or have to pay more for a cab? Thanks!
*Mt. Fuji (perhaps via the Hakone Ropeway)
*Sumida River Cruise *Tokyo Bay and Odaiba
*Yoyogi Park, Ueno, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Any other gardens?
Kyoto--1 day with same day return to Tokyo (Gion district, not sure of temples yet, so suggestions are needed)
*Harajuku district/*Roppongi hills (Mori Tower-where the spider is), not sure about the observation deck
*Seeing Tokyo Tower (will do free obersavatories like Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building & I read about other free ones) *Tea Ceremony with a Geisha (was looking at this
http://www.kyotowinterspecial.com/maiko/index.html but it isn't available during my March stay)
*Imperial Palace/Meiji Jingu Shrine (and other temples that I can find...pref free or under $5 USD)/*Tokyo Metroplitan Art Museum
I'm thinking about Hiroshima, Hakone, Kobe (maybe), want to see the Great Buddha, and want to do some museums (but the Grutt pass doesn't appear as if it's available now). I'm going to see if any of the museums have free days.
Also, any good places to get a cheap kimono that's pretty? Under $30?
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!
