What airline would you consider the stingiest in allocating award seats?
I'm just curious if my perceptions and experiences match those of others. I have found over the years that Delta is the most difficult airline to obtain award seats, primarily when flying international. I've just given up several times when trying to book flights to Asia or Europe. The few times I've been successful with them is when I have called their elite services award desk. Then, if successful, I'm almost always booked on a partner carrier. In addition, I usually end up paying a lot more FF miles than I had planned. On the other hand, I've always had excellent success in booking both domestic and international with American Airlines. And I've been able to do it 90% of the time using their web site. By the way, I'm an elite member of each airline's program which one would think would give a member some edge. Like to hear what other FF experiences have been with award bookings, both positive and negative. Thanks.
