I will be flying Hong Kong on at around midnight. While I could technically have the hotel store my luggage until departure time, I would rather avoid backtracking all the way to the hotel at the end of the night just to collect my luggage.

Hong Kong offers in-town check-in (something I'm not familiar with as it is non-existent in North America) but as I have never been to Hong Kong, I have no idea if the layout of the station allows this:

-Check luggage in and obtain boarding passes at the Kowloon MTR
-Leave the station altogether
-Return a few hours later to catch the airport express to HKG

Is this allowed? or does one have to board the train once the luggage has been tagged or checked? If the latter, does the Kowloon MTR offer short-term luggage storage facilities?
