I'd look into switching to EK for that last Syd-Akl hop. F available on the 388 (showers etc.) and it's just long enough to have a laugh. I do not know how the times align, mind.
While LAN on-time performance (OTP) between AKL & SYD is not as good as QF, NZ, etc; it still isn't bad (and much better than it used to be). EK also suffers in OTP due to being a tag leg.
LA schedule works well connecting to or from BA. In the event LA flight is seriously late or cancelled all pax are rebooked onto QF flights and there is one leaving not much later so can still make onward connections.
EK schedule is terrible for connecting to or from BA flights. SYD-AKL leaves early in the morning making for a risky connection on separate tickets and AKL-SYD is in the evening thus forcing an overnight at SYD.
