Sure sounds like there needs to be more communication between UA pilots flying the same route on the same day. We had monster turbulence but did not suffer any injuries. Pilot said worst in 17 years and that an inspection would take place after we landed in Shanghai. I was out of my seat chatting and had to hang on very hard to the over head bins and push myself onto the floor firmly before diving into my seat. One FA dove under the legs of a few passengers for security (that must have been interesting for the passengers!).
I guess "unexpected clear air turbulence" should have generated a pilot report generated by either the 897 or 835 crew whomever went through it first. It was at FL34 and there was smooth air at FL30. Interesting coincidence-- makes me wonder if they were in the same spot (we were over Alaska too today).
